Would we rather a remake of Metroid Fusion, Zero Mission, or Super? Would we rather Samus always adventure alone or introduce a new companion to the series?

Andy and Dak are finally reunited and have a whole smorgasbord of Metroid topics to dive into! We go over the recent DYK Gaming video highlighting the development of Metroid Prime, talk about the reported leaks showing Nintendo using Game Boy Advance emulators and what it could mean for NSO, discuss the new Retro Studios job posting for a writer for Metroid Prime 4, and finally go over an editorial Andy penned about how Metroid 6 could take a page out of Metal Gear Solid’s book and introduce a new playable character and feature Samus in an antagonistic role!

We’re back and talking all things Bosses in this special Boss Rush edition of the podcast. Dak and Doom talk about the new feature in Metroid Dread and if they enjoyed running through the gauntlet of bosses or not, and then discuss which bosses from previous Metroid games would have rounded up the Dread roster, including, of course, Ridley. That’s not all, as we’re taking fan questions at the end like which 3D boss would work well in a 2D setting and the sweet spot when it comes to amount of bosses in a Metroid game.

The whole crew are back together this week to talk about two of the things they love most - Metroid and Super Smash Bros.! We go around the table and definitively rank each Metroid-themed stage in Smash, discussing things like the differences between Planet Zebes and Brinstar, if you can have a great Smash match on Brinstar Depths, why Norfair was such an uninspired choice, how we only got one Metroid Prime stage, and if the Ridley boss experiment in Pyrosphere paid off or not. PLUS, we each pitch a stage that would have been a great addition at the time to Smash.

This week marks 25 years since the release of not only one of the greatest games of all time, but a game that helped shape and define an entire genre - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. This week, Andy is joined by his Virtual Theater podcast co-host Gooey Fame to talk about the many triumphs and innovations of Symphony of the Night. Everything, from the incredibly diverse selection of music, to the incredible pixels and art style, to the diverse areas of the castle, to the way the almost every enemy is rooted in some kind of folklore or legend, is up for discussion, and of course, we talk about how Symphony of the Night introduced the "Vania" part of Metroidvania by including more RPG elements, stats, weapons, and improvements on Super Metroid's map and item exploration.
We talk and reminisce for a while about one of the greatest games of all time, so if you've never played (or haven't played in a while!) Symphony of the Night, do yourself a favor and fire it up, since this timeless adventure is still as good today as it was 25 years ago.

With the Omega Team busy this weekend raising money for The Trevor Project by streaming a couple Metroid games, there was no time to record a new episode, but not to worry- we streamed for 12 hours and there was a lot of great Metroid content available, so instead of skipping a week, we're uploading Andy's NEStroid Stream, complete with commentary about the game, Zelda chatter, and other shenanigans.

Definitive Ranking returns after almost a six-month hiatus to examine the granddaddy of them all: Metroid! We take a look at the original game and try to balance how it holds up today with how it innovated video games 35 years ago and have some fun discussion about the assortment of incredible enemies, the wet-noodle boss fights, the awesome music, the oppressing atmosphere, and the frustrating lack of an in game map.
Come listen and play along! As always, here's the criteria for the Definitive Rankings:
– World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood)
– Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general)
– Story (what works, what doesn’t)
– Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?)
– Gameplay / “Gimmick” (what new or different gameplay aspects we like)
– Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical)
– Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.)
– Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.)
– Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?)
– Music (are we humming along?)
Of course, all of these are subjective, and we’re putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Twitter!

This week, we’re taking a little inspiration from the sporting world and assembling an all-star team of different Metroid parts in order to build the ultimate Metroid game! We break down our picks for the greatest themed areas and enemies in Metroid, which is tough because, while some are easy (I’m sure we all know what our pick for favorite Ice themed area is), others are way harder (so many good Fire themed areas to choose from!). We go back and forth, picking a water areas, Ridley fights, escape sequences, scary areas, Metroid types and more! Come play along with us!
