Unfortunately, we don't have the most fun episode in the world today, but an incredibly important episode. As reported by Shinesparkers, and then subsequently followed up on again in a later report, acclaimed Metroid Dread developers MercurySteam have been accused by several former employees of fostering a culture of crunch, exploitation, and horrible working conditions. The guys are going over the report, detailing the allegations, offering their thoughts on why this isn't a bigger story in games media, talking about the human cost of developing video games, and what this means for Metroid going forward.

We're back and battling through technical difficulties to bring you a really weird episode we've wanted to do for a while: ranking the best enemy transitions from 2D Metroid to 3D Metroid! As you'd expect, there's a lot of Metroid Prime Trilogy baddies here, but we also give a lot of love to Other M for its designs as well. Last week after deep diving into the recent Metroid Prime 4: Beyond trailer frame-by-frame, we asked you the listeners to give us your lingering questions about the game following the latest info dump. After a few days to digest everything, we are back and pouring through the latest Metroid Prime 4: Beyond trailer frame-by-frame to see what kind of secrets we can uncover! We go over some of the bike animations, dismiss the bad faith critiques about the desert, notice the bike upgrades and missile details on the HUD, review some of the outposts and temples shown in the map, look at Vi-O-La in detail, and of course talk about Sylux and his upgraded suit!

WOW, what a day! Yesterday the much anticipated September Nintendo Direct premiered, giving us a glimpse at Nintendo's plans leading into Spring 2026. Included in that Direct, as expected was more information on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and INFORMATION WE GOT INDEED! We finally got a glimpse at the game's scope with it's open zones, Samus's new alien motorcycle, Vi-O-La, some breathtaking new areas and of course, the much awaited release date now confirmed for December 12th! Rather than waiting for the ususal Wednesday drop, Andy and Doom got together early to rave about all the new footage plus go over some of their highlights from the rest of the Direct.

After a technical snafu caused the episode to be delayed a day the fellas are finally back to finish their discussion about Hollow Knight! We talk about the music and its impact on the ambience, go over each area and discuss what we liked about them, gush about the incredible platforming found in the White Palace, go in depth on the games lore and detail the conflict between the Pale King and the Radiance, and talk about the various endings, including the "true" ending where the Infection is stopped once and for all! We agree this is an S-tier Metroidvania, and we're closing our our review in style, so come hang out with us!

ROM Hack Reviews in years, and not a moment too soon, as Andy and Doom are discussing what could arguably be called the most anticipated Metroid ROM Hack of all time: Super Metroid X-Fusion! Billed as the first ever Cross Hack between (you guessed it) Super and Metroid Fusion, we go over the good, the bad, and the ugly of this Hack. Definitive Ranking returns! This time around, we're examining the single-player campaign of Metroid Prime Hunters. We cover the good, the bad, and the ugly, as we cover the cool character designs, awesome weapons, lacklustre boss battles, OST, and the make-or-break point of the game: those darn stylus controls!
Come play along, and as always, here’s the criteria for the Definitive Rankings:
- World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood)
- Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general)
- Story (what works, what doesn’t)
- Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?)
- Gameplay / “Gimmick” (what new or different gameplay aspects we like)
- Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical)
- Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.)
- Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.)
- Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?)
- Music (are we humming along?)
Of course, all of these are subjective, and we’re putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Bluesky!
