Although as of yet still unannounced, a Nintendo Direct is looming, and a big one at that, as the Direct that would normally air during E3 (if E3 were still happening, that is) is always a big one, and we're a week away from that time! This week, Andy and Doom are having a back and forth competition to see who can more picks right, but BOTH agree that it's finally time for Metroid Prime 4 to make an appearance. But what about the long rumored Metroid Prime HD? What about the rest of the Trilogy? Will Metroid Dread get any more updates? In non-Metroid picks, do we finally get the curtain pulled back on Breath of the Wild 2? What kind of showing will Mario Kart have? And the fellas BOTH think that it's time for Donkey Kong to make a return, but disagree about what direction it will take!
All these predictions, PLUS guesses on Xenoblade, Bayonetta, Hollow Knight, Kirby, and more! Come tell us what you think of our picks and let us know what you're looking forward too most!

Episode 115 - Definitively Ranking Metroid: Samus Returns
Tuesday May 31, 2022
Tuesday May 31, 2022
Definitive Ranking is back for a brand new installment focused on Samus’s first new (at the time) 2D Metroid game in over a decade, the apply named Metroid: Samus Returns! We’re breaking it down, discussing the categories and topics such as: did the gameplay innovations made in Samus Returns land, or were they a little undercooked? Although the music was decent, you barely hear the best tracks, so can we rate music highly? Does the focus on combat take away from the atmosphere intended by the original Metroid II game? What’s up with that brown/yellow filter the whole game has?
All this and so much more discussed as we break down Samus’s 3DS adventure in one of our longest shows yet. Come play along, and as always, here’s the criteria for the Definitive Rankings:
- World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood)
- Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general)
- Story (what works, what doesn’t)
- Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?)
- Gameplay / “Gimmick” (what new or different gameplay aspects we like)
- Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical)
- Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.)
- Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.)
- Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?)
- Music (are we humming along?)
Of course, all of these are subjective, and we’re putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Twitter!

Yes, we're talking about Metroid: Other M again, the most controversial Metroid game that Metroid fans can't seem to be able to forgive or forget. But this week, Andy is arguing that the basic premise of the game ("Samus, emotionally reeling following the events of Zebes, answers a distress call on a mysterious GF ship where she meets her old commanding officer and learns of a sinister conspiracy involving GF-made biological weapons, all while dealing with a traitor amongst the ranks trying to keep the conspiracy a secret.") isn't all that bad, and with a few tweaks and character changes, it could be really good! Andy is trying to sell our pal KiwiTalkz on his new version of the story with a different payoff for the Deleter, a retooled MD and Madeline Bergman, a more Alien-esq approach to Little Birdie and Ridley, and a complete change in the way that Samus and Adam interact!
All this, PLUS we touch on the recent comments from former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé about Metroid: Other M missing the mark. Come let us know if you think Andy's story draft is an improvement, or if the basic premise is too flawed to succeed!
Make sure you check out Kiwitalkz and subscribe to his channel on YouTube!

Episode 112 - Alien Retrospective: The Movie That Inspired Metroid!
Wednesday May 11, 2022
Wednesday May 11, 2022
We've got a special treat for you this week as Andy's Virtual Theater (the podcast about video game movies and the stories that shape them) co-host Gooey Fame is joining the pod for a retrospective of not only one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time, but the movie that heavily inspired the Metroid series: Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece Alien! We go over some of the elements of the movie that clearly inspired Metroid, talk about the threat of the Xenomorph and how it became such an iconic character, and discuss the movie in general, from its characters, to the setting of the Nostromo, to *that* famous scene. We're all in on Alien, so if you've never seen it or haven't seen it in a while, make sure that you give it a watch sooner rather than later!
All this, PLUS, we touch in on the Metroid Dread sales figures and discuss whether 2.9 million is a success or not (spoiler: it is). Come hang with us, and if you liked our movie chat, make sure you check out Virtual Theater!

Episode 111 - Samus’s Percentages: How Likely to Be True are These Statements?
Tuesday May 03, 2022
Tuesday May 03, 2022
Welcome to a new segment on the show we like to call Samus's Percentages! The premise is simple: we read a statement out loud and then assign a percentage on how true or likely we believe the statement to be. On today's debut episode, we have a whole bunch of doozeys, including: will Metroid Prime 4 sell over 10 million copies? Will Nintendo give the developing reigns of Metroid to another studio? Will Samus be a playable character in the next Mario Kart? Will Sylux survive the events of Metroid Prime 4? Is Mercury Steam working on a Metroid Fusion remake as we speak?
All this, and a ton more! Come weigh in with your percentages over in Discord, and feel free to suggest some Percentages for the next time we run this segment!

Episode 110 - Answering Your Metroid ”Would You Rather” Questions!
Tuesday Apr 26, 2022
Tuesday Apr 26, 2022
This week, we're answering YOUR fan questions in a "would you rather" format, and we have some absolute doozeys on hand! Would we rather every game play like Federation Force or have dialog like Other M? Would we rather a new Hunters style stand alone game or just have multiplayer included in Prime 4? Would we rather a remake of Metroid Fusion, Zero Mission, or Super? Would we rather Samus always adventure alone or introduce a new companion to the series?
All this and so much more are on the table, and we've got an All Star lineup of guests to help answer! Zelda Dungeon's top speed runner Kathrine Endicott joins the fray, as well as the legendary Kiwi Talkz, who makes his long awaited Omega Metroid debut! Come and let us know what YOU would rather when it comes to some of these questions!

Tuesday Apr 19, 2022
Andy and Dak are finally reunited and have a whole smorgasbord of Metroid topics to dive into! We go over the recent DYK Gaming video highlighting the development of Metroid Prime, talk about the reported leaks showing Nintendo using Game Boy Advance emulators and what it could mean for NSO, discuss the new Retro Studios job posting for a writer for Metroid Prime 4, and finally go over an editorial Andy penned about how Metroid 6 could take a page out of Metal Gear Solid’s book and introduce a new playable character and feature Samus in an antagonistic role!
There are some definite differing opinions on what direction the sequel could take, so make sure that you tune in to weigh in! Also, DON’T FORGET – next week, we’re taking fan “would you rather” questions! Head to this tweet and reply to have your question answered!

Episode 108 – Discussing Metroid Dread’s New Boss Rush Mode!
Tuesday Apr 12, 2022
Tuesday Apr 12, 2022
We’re back and talking all things Bosses in this special Boss Rush edition of the podcast. Dak and Doom talk about the new feature in Metroid Dread and if they enjoyed running through the gauntlet of bosses or not, and then discuss which bosses from previous Metroid games would have rounded up the Dread roster, including, of course, Ridley. That’s not all, as we’re taking fan questions at the end like which 3D boss would work well in a 2D setting and the sweet spot when it comes to amount of bosses in a Metroid game.
Come and hang with us, and let us know your best scores in Boss Rush Mode!

Episode 107 - Ranking Every Metroid-Themed Stage in Smash Bros.!
Tuesday Apr 05, 2022
Tuesday Apr 05, 2022
The whole crew are back together this week to talk about two of the things they love most - Metroid and Super Smash Bros.! We go around the table and definitively rank each Metroid-themed stage in Smash, discussing things like the differences between Planet Zebes and Brinstar, if you can have a great Smash match on Brinstar Depths, why Norfair was such an uninspired choice, how we only got one Metroid Prime stage, and if the Ridley boss experiment in Pyrosphere paid off or not. PLUS, we each pitch a stage that would have been a great addition at the time to Smash.
Come hang out with us, let us know what YOUR favorite Smash stage is, and tell us which stage you would have put in if given the chance!
