Episode 124 - Metroid Prime Pinball Retrospective!
Tuesday Aug 02, 2022
Tuesday Aug 02, 2022
After two and a half years, the game EVERYONE has been dying to talk about finally has it's time in the sun on the Omega Metroid Podcast! No, it's not Metroid Prime 4 - it's Metroid Prime Pinball! We go as in depth as anyone has ever went into this game, breaking down each table, mini game, boss encounter, Artifact collectable, and even throw out a few of our high scores! We also go over why the games sales didn't live up to it's expectations, what would be the perfect scenario needed to ever see Pinball again, and praise the developer Fuse Games for making this feel like a Metroid game that was Pinball versus a Pinball game with Metroid stuff slapped on it.
If you haven't played Metroid Prime Pinball in a while, or maybe ever, we encourage you guys to give it a go! You can even let us know your high scores! Until next week, when Mapping Metroid returns!

Episode 123: ”Next Mission,” Metroid Music and More with Lacey Johnson!
Tuesday Jul 26, 2022
Tuesday Jul 26, 2022
This week on the show, our resident audio expert Doom is joined by none other than musical extraordinaire and Metroid fan Lacey Johnson! Lacey has just recently released her newest album, "Next Mission," a 12-track love letter to the Metroid franchise featuring covers from Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, and more, all performed and arranged by Lacey herself. Doom and Lacey sit down for one of our longest (if not our longest) episodes yet to discuss everyone's favorite cat game Stray, Lacey's latest album release, their favorite versions of recurring Metroid themes, and so much more!
Be sure to sit back, relax, put on your best headphones or find your favorite speakers, and dive into this deep discussion on Metroid music with Doom and Lacey. And don't forget to check out "Next Mission" and Lacey as soon as you can with the links provided below!

LANGUAGE IN THIS EPISODE IS NSFW! DO NOT LISTEN OUT LOUD OR AROUND YOUNGER LISTENERS!
What’s up Omega Metroid fans! This week, we’ve got something waaay different than usual – in fact, it’s not even a proper episode of the Omega Metroid Podcast! Andy is away for the Zelda Dungeon Marathon, Dak is out of town casting, and Doom is tied up this week as well, so instead of leaving you guys empty handed, we figured we’d treat you to a previously PATREON LOCKED bonus episode of Andy’s video game movie podcast, Virtual Theater. The bonus episode is all about Captain N and the Game Master, the crazy 80’s Nintendo cartoon where Kevin, aka Captain N, and his dog Duke are sucked into Video Game Land, where they do battle with the evil Mother Brain on the planet Metroid. This series is crazy, the depiction of Mother Brain is wild, and we had a whole lot of fun covering this specific episode, “Mr. and Mrs. Mother Brain”, where, you guessed it, Mother Brain gets married!
Enjoy something a little different and if you liked this episode, consider supporting Virtual Theater on Patreon! If you didn't know, Virtual Theater is a podcast about video game movies and the stories that shape them, so go and check out our reviews on some of the most notorious video game movies ever made!

Episode 121 - Is It Time to Forgive Other M?
Tuesday Jul 12, 2022
Tuesday Jul 12, 2022
Welcome back to another week of Omega! This week, the fellas are tackling a bunch of different #MetroidMusing questions, including this doozey: 12 years removed from the game launching, is it time to forgive Other M and embrace it's good qualities while leaving behind what it did wrong, or should fans hold the game accountable to make sure a second Other M never happens? Other questions include the possibility of Zero Mission - itself a remake - getting a modern remake one day, our favorite Space Pirate design, how awesome a prequel game starring Raven Beak set before the events of Metroid Dread could be, and so much more!
All this, PLUS some Zelda Dungeon Marathon talk, Metroid Prime 4 discussion, and how no Nintendo Direct this summer almost assuredly means no Metroid Prime HD this year. Come hang out!

Andy and Doom are back in the hot seat this week for another edition of SAMUS’S PERCENTAGES! The premise is simple: we read a statement and assign a percentage on how likely we think it is to be true! Will Prime 4 have more than four beams and visors to choose from? Where will the game take place in the timeline? Will there be a Metroid movie in the next couple years? Will the manga ever get localized? Could Metroid Prime Pinball ever get ported? Will Other M remain the most controversial Metroid game for eternity?
All this PLUS we talk some reactions to the Partner Mini Direct, Andy shares a cool Metroidvania he’s been playing, and followup from last week. Don’t miss out!

After discussing current events and the latest movies and shows they've watched, the guys dive into the ruckus around the latest Nintendo presentations and the lack of a full Nintendo Direct this past month. Then, they tackle the big news of the week, as another Metroid Prime remaster rumor has reared its head. Is Jeff Grubb onto something or just blowing smoke? And how should all the Prime games be released on Switch if they make it there at all? Tune in and find out!

Tuesday Jun 21, 2022
Tuesday Jun 21, 2022
While the guys are still waiting for an actual Nintendo Direct to be announced, there's still much to talk about in the world of Metroid! On this week's episode, Dak and Doom reminisce on the reveal of Metroid Dread one year ago. They also chat about everyone's favorite Metroid spin-off, Federation Force, and what Sylux really looks like in his brief cameo. Then after a quick chat on the new upcoming Metroidvania title from Squid Shock Studios, Dak and Doom talk about their favorite ideas on how Samus's ship can be implemented in new ways in future 2D and 3D Metroid titles.
Come hang out and let us know what your hopes for the Gunship are in the next Metroid title!

Like many of you, we assumed that there would be a “don’t-call-it-E3” Nintendo Direct this week, and so we waited and waited and waited until by the time it was clear there wasn’t going to be one, we didn’t have time to record! Fret not though – we have a special episode lined up for you! Please enjoy an episode of The Zelda Cast (FKA The Champions’ Cast) that was recorded shortly after Metroid Dread was released! Andy’s co-host Alasyn had just played Super Metroid, her first Metroid game, and shared her thoughts and impressions, as well as examining the history between Metroid and Zelda!
Make sure you give Alasyn and The Zelda Cast a follow on Twitter, and check back next week for a fresh episode!

Although as of yet still unannounced, a Nintendo Direct is looming, and a big one at that, as the Direct that would normally air during E3 (if E3 were still happening, that is) is always a big one, and we're a week away from that time! This week, Andy and Doom are having a back and forth competition to see who can more picks right, but BOTH agree that it's finally time for Metroid Prime 4 to make an appearance. But what about the long rumored Metroid Prime HD? What about the rest of the Trilogy? Will Metroid Dread get any more updates? In non-Metroid picks, do we finally get the curtain pulled back on Breath of the Wild 2? What kind of showing will Mario Kart have? And the fellas BOTH think that it's time for Donkey Kong to make a return, but disagree about what direction it will take!
All these predictions, PLUS guesses on Xenoblade, Bayonetta, Hollow Knight, Kirby, and more! Come tell us what you think of our picks and let us know what you're looking forward too most!

Episode 115 - Definitively Ranking Metroid: Samus Returns
Tuesday May 31, 2022
Tuesday May 31, 2022
Definitive Ranking is back for a brand new installment focused on Samus’s first new (at the time) 2D Metroid game in over a decade, the apply named Metroid: Samus Returns! We’re breaking it down, discussing the categories and topics such as: did the gameplay innovations made in Samus Returns land, or were they a little undercooked? Although the music was decent, you barely hear the best tracks, so can we rate music highly? Does the focus on combat take away from the atmosphere intended by the original Metroid II game? What’s up with that brown/yellow filter the whole game has?
All this and so much more discussed as we break down Samus’s 3DS adventure in one of our longest shows yet. Come play along, and as always, here’s the criteria for the Definitive Rankings:
- World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood)
- Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general)
- Story (what works, what doesn’t)
- Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?)
- Gameplay / “Gimmick” (what new or different gameplay aspects we like)
- Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical)
- Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.)
- Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.)
- Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?)
- Music (are we humming along?)
Of course, all of these are subjective, and we’re putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Twitter!
