Alien In Review returns! After a long layoff, Andy and Gooey Fame are back to analyze the last Alien film in the Sigourney Weaver era, the oft-derided Alien Resurrection! We talk about its themes of motherhood and artificial intelligence, comment on how the plot of the movie mirrors that of Metroid Fusion, break down some of the crazy kills, and discuss how Alien Resurrection is very, very reminiscent of one particular Metroid game, for better or worse: Metroid Other M! All this, PLUS a little Tears of the Kingdom talk to get us going!

The most controversial Metroid game of all time returns to ignite debate and discussion, as this week, Andy and Dak are Definitively Ranking Metroid: Other M! We weigh in on the story, the gameplay, the music, and more to see where Other M went wrong, and more importantly, what areas the game excels at! Come play along, and as always, here’s the criteria for the Definitive Rankings:
- World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood)
- Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general)
- Story (what works, what doesn’t)
- Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?)
- Gameplay / “Gimmick” (what new or different gameplay aspects we like)
- Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical)
- Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.)
- Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.)
- Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?)
- Music (are we humming along?)
Of course, all of these are subjective, and we’re putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Twitter!

Our recording schedules didn’t quite line up this week, so instead of a new episode of the podcast, we’re releasing a old episode that will be new to almost everyone! Mapping Metroid returns to the B.S.L. Station to once again detail one of Metroid Fusion's ominous sectors - Sector 4 (AQA)! We're going in depth talking about the right-to-left layout and how unique it is; how some of the enemies like Evir and the Aqua Pirates remind us of Super Metroid; the dichotomy between the steely upper surface and the bright, colorful submerged parts; the Serris boss fight and how fun it is; if this Sector has the most underrated track in Metroid; our favorite expansions; and, of course, THAT hidden Easter Egg scene!

With the Super Mario Bros. Movie finally in theatres, we thought it would be a great time to revisit the idea of a Metroid movie! Rather than throw out specific ideas or casting choices (we did that already!), we talk a little more broadly, debating the advantages of live action versus animation and vice versa, what the right tone to strike for a Metroid movie would be, who are some directors that could really take it to the next level, if the story should be an adaptation of a single game or an amalgamation of games, what we would title the movie, and how John Wick might be the key to making a great Metroid movie!

It's a new era of the podcast! We're proud to announce our new theme song, which you can download for free here, is available everywhere! The track, which was written by Doominal and arranged by our friend Synamax, with some shredding guitar solo's by Lacey Johnson, sounds like something right out of Metroid Prime 4, so we had Max and Lacey join us to talk about the origins of the track, what tweaks and techniques they used to take it to the next level, and Doom's inspiration for what he wanted the track to sound like! We also ask them what they thought of the Metroid Dread OST, what Metroid song needs to come back, and what their hopes are for Metroid Prime 4!

We're once again joined by Staff Writer Daniel Hoctor to go over our first memories of playing it, how its limitations might or might not dissuade newer players, the importance of the games story and gameplay on the rest of the series, why none of the music has come back, our thoughts on the evolution of the Metroids, what this original version offers that neither Samus Returns or AM2R does, and so much more!
